زَيْنَبَ فَادَّعَتْ أَنَّهَا عَلَوِيَّةٌ مِنْ سُلَالَةِ فَاطِمَةَ ع وَ صَارَتْ تَصُولُ عَلَى أَهْلِ خُرَاسَانَ بِنَسَبِهَا فَسَمِعَ بِهَا عَلِيٌّ الرِّضَا ع فَلَمْ يَعْرِفْ نَسَبَهَا فَأُحْضِرَتْ إِلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ نَسَبَهَا وَ قَالَ هَذِهِ كَذَّابَةٌ فَسَفِهَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَ قَالَتْ كَمَا قَدَحْتَ فِي نَسَبِي فَأَنَا أَقْدَحُ فِي نَسَبِكَ
فَأَخَذَتْهُ الْغَيْرَةُ الْعَلَوِيَّةُ فَقَالَ ع لِسُلْطَانِ خُرَاسَانَ وَ كَانَ لِذَلِكَ السُّلْطَانِ بِخُرَاسَانَ مَوْضِعٌ وَاسِعٌ فِيهِ سِبَاعٌ مُسَلْسَلَةٌ لِلِانْتِقَامِ مِنَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ يُسَمَّى ذَلِكَ الْمَوْضِعُ بِرْكَةَ السِّبَاعِ
فَأَخَذَ الرِّضَا ع بِيَدِ تِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ أَحْضَرَهَا عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ السُّلْطَانِ وَ قَالَ هَذِهِ كَذَّابَةٌ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ وَ فَاطِمَةَ ع وَ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ نَسْلِهِمَا فَإِنَّ مَنْ كَانَ حَقّاً بَضْعَةً مِنْ عَلِيٍّ وَ فَاطِمَةَ فَإِنَّ لَحْمَهُ حَرَامٌ عَلَى السِّبَاعِ فَأَلْقُوهَا فِي بِرْكَةِ السِّبَاعِ فَإِنْ كَانَتْ صَادِقَةً فَإِنَّ السِّبَاعَ لَا تَقْرَبُهَا وَ إِنْ كَانَتْ كَاذِبَةً فَتَفْتَرِسُهَا السِّبَاعُ
فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ قَالَتْ فَانْزِلْ أَنْتَ إِلَى السِّبَاعِ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ صَادِقاً فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَقْرَبُكَ وَ لَا تَفْتَرِسُكَ فَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْهَا وَ قَامَ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذَلِكَ السُّلْطَانُ إِلَى أَيْنَ قَالَ إِلَى بِرْكَةِ السِّبَاعِ وَ اللَّهِ لَأَنْزِلَنَّ إِلَيْهَا
فَقَامَ السُّلْطَانُ وَ النَّاسُ وَ الْحَاشِيَةُ وَ جَاءُوا وَ فَتَحُوا بَابَ الْبِرْكَةِ فَنَزَلَ الرِّضَا ع وَ النَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ مِنْ أَعْلَى الْبِرْكَةِ فَلَمَّا حَصَلَ بَيْنَ السِّبَاعِ أَقْعَتْ جَمِيعُهَا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ عَلَى أَذْنَابِهَا وَ صَارَ يَأْتِي إِلَى وَاحِدٍ وَاحِدٍ يَمْسَحُ وَجْهَهُ وَ رَأْسَهُ وَ ظَهْرَهُ وَ السَّبُعُ يُبَصْبِصُ لَهُ
هَكَذَا إِلَى أَنْ أَتَى عَلَى الْجَمِيعِ ثُمَّ طَلَعَ وَ النَّاسُ يُبْصِرُونَهُ فَقَالَ لِذَلِكَ السُّلْطَانِ أَنْزِلْ هَذِهِ الْكَذَّابَةَ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ وَ فَاطِمَةَ لِيَتَبَيَّنَ لَكَ فَامْتَنَعَتْ فَأَلْزَمَهَا ذَلِكَ السُّلْطَانُ وَ أَمَرَ أَعْوَانَهُ بِإِلْقَائِهَا فَمُذْ رَآهَا السِّبَاعُ وَثَبُوا إِلَيْهَا وَ افْتَرَسُوهَا فَاشْتَهَرَ اسْمُهَا بِخُرَاسَانَ بِزَيْنَبَ الْكَذَّابَةِ وَ حَدِيثُهَا هُنَاكَ مَشْهُورٌ.
at there was a woman at Khurasan called Zainab. She claimed that she was an Alawite from the ancestry of (Syeda) Fatima-asws, and she became connecting to the people of Khurasan with her lineage. Ali Al-Reza-asws heard of her but did not recognise her lineage. She was presented to him-asws. He-asws rejected her lineage and said: ‘This one is a liar! ’ She was disrespectful to him-asws and said, ‘Just as you-asws have slandered me regarding my lineage, I will be even more slandering regarding your-asws lineage! ’
The Alawite self-esteem seized him-asws. He-asws said to the sultan of Khurasan, and for that sultan of Khurasan there was a vast place wherein were chained lions for taking the revenge from the mischief-makers. He had named that place as ‘The lion’s den’. Al-Reza-asws grabbed a hand of that woman and presented her in the presence of that sultan and said: ‘This one is a liar upon Ali-asws and (Syeda) Fatima-asws, and she isn’t from their-asws lineage, for the one who was truly a part from Ali-asws and (Syeda) Fatima-asws, then his/her flesh would be prohibited unto the lions! So throw her into the lion’s den. If she was truthful, then the lions with not go near her, and if she was a liar, then the lions would devour her! ’
When She heard that from him-asws, she said, ‘You-asws descend to the lions. If you-asws were truthful, then they will not come near you-asws nor will they devour you’. He-asws did not speak to her and stood up. That sultan said to him-asws, ‘Where are you-asws going to? ’ He-asws said: ‘To the lion’s den. By Allah-azwj! I-asws shall descend to it! ’
The sultan, and the people, and the special ones stood up and they came and opened the door of the den. Al-Reza-asws descended, and the people were looking on from the top of the den. When he-asws arrived in the midst of the lions, they all fell to the ground upon their ears, he-asws went to one by one, wiping its face and its head and its back, and they lions were servile (submissive) to him-asws. That is how it was until he-asws had gone to the entirety. Then he-asws emerged and the people were looking at him-asws. He-asws said to that sultan: ‘Make this liar upon Ali-asws and (Syeda) Fatima-asws to descend. Let it be clarified for you! ’ She refused, but that sultan necessitated her and ordered his supporter with throwing her (into it). When the lions saw her, they leapt to her and devoured her. Her name became famous at Khurasan as ‘Zainab the liar’, and her narrations is well-known over there’’. [160]
