Hadith 283

(The books) ‘Jamie Al Fawaaid’ and ‘Taweel Al Ayaat Al Zaahira’ – Muhammad Bin Al Abbas, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Sa’ad, from Muhammad Bin Haroun, from Muhammad Bin Malik, from Ahmad Bin Fuzeyl, from Ghalid Al Juhny, ‘From Abu Ja’far Muhammad-asws Bin Ali-asws, from his-asws father-asws, from his-asws grandfather-asws, from Ali-asws, may the Salawaat of Allah-azwj be upon them-asws all, said: ‘Rasool-Allah-saww said to me-asws: ‘When there was an Ascension with me-saww to the sky, then to Sidrat Al-Muntaha, I-saww paused in front of my-saww Lord-azwj Mighty and Majestic. He-azwj Said to me-saww: “O Muhammad-saww! ” I-saww said: ‘At Your-azwj service, my-saww Lord-azwj, and Your-azwj assistance! ’
He-azwj Said: “I-azwj have Tried My-azwj creatures, so which of them did you-saww find to be the most obedient to you-saww? ’ I-saww said: ‘My-saww Lord-azwj, (it is) Ali-asws’. He-azwj Said: “You-saww speak the truth, O Muhammad-saww! Have you-saww chosen a caliph for yourself-saww to deliver on your-asws behalf, and teach My-azwj servants from My-azwj Book what they are not knowing? ” I-saww said: ‘No, so You-azwj Choose for me-saww, for Your-azwj Choice is better for me-saww’. He-azwj Said: ‘I-azwj have Chosen Ali-asws for you-saww, so take him-asws as a caliph for yourself-saww, and as successor-asws. I-azwj have Bestowed to him-asws My-azwj Knowledge and My-azwj Wisdom, and he-asws is Amir Al-Momineen-asws truly. No one has attained it before him-asws and it isn’t for anyone after him-asws. O Muhammad-saww! Ali-asws is flag of guidance, and Imam-asws of the ones obeying Me-azwj, and Noor of My-azwj friends, and he-asws is the Word which I-azwj have necessitated it for the pious. One who loves him-asws, so he has loved Me-azwj, and one who hates him-asws, so he has hated Me-azwj, so give him-asws the glad tidings with that, O Muhammad-saww! ”
He-asws said: ‘He-saww gave him-asws glad tidings of that. Ali-asws said: ‘I-asws am a servant of Allah-azwj and in His-azwj Grip. If He-azwj were to Punish me-asws, it would be due to my-asws shortcomings. He-azwj will not be unjust to me-asws. And if He-azwj were to Complete for me-asws what He-azwj Promised me-asws, so Allah-azwj is Foremost with me-asws’. The Prophet-saww said: ‘O Allah-azwj! Polish his-asws heart and Make it nourish the Eman with You-azwj! ’ Allah-azwj the Exalted Said: “I-azwj had Done that, O Muhammad-saww, apart from that I-azwj have Specialised him-asws with the afflictions with what no one from My-azwj friends has been Specialised with! ”
He-saww said: ‘I-saww said: ‘My-saww Lord-azwj! My-saww brother-asws and companion! ’ He-azwj Said: “It has preceded in My-azwj Knowledge that he-asws will be Tried and Tested with it, and had it not been for Ali-asws, My-azwj friends would not be recognised nor friends of My-azwj Rasool-saww! ”’[200]
