قَالَ نَصْرٌ وَ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْوَدَّاكِ قَالَ: لَمَّا كُتِبَتْ صَحِيفَةُ الصُّلْحِ وَ التَّحْكِيمِ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع إِنَّمَا فَعَلْتُ مَا فَعَلْتُ لِمَا بَدَا فِيكُمْ مِنَ الْخَوَرِ وَ الْفَشَلِ عَنِ الْحَرْبِ
فَجَاءَتْ إِلَيْهِ هَمْدَانُ كَأَنَّهَا رُكْنُ حَصِيرٍ فِيهِمْ سَعِيدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ وَ ابْنُهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَقَالَ سَعِيدٌ هَا أَنَا ذَا وَ قَوْمِي لَا نَرُدُّ أَمْرَكَ فَقُلْ مَا شِئْتَ نَعْمَلْهُ
فَقَالَ أَمَا لَوْ كَانَ هَذَا قَبْلَ سَطْرِ الصَّحِيفَةِ لَأَزَلْتُهُمْ عَنْ عَسْكَرِهِمْ أَوْ تَنْفَرِدَ سَالِفَتِي وَ لَكِنِ انْصَرِفُوا رَاشِدِينَ فَلَعَمْرِي مَا كُنْتُ لِأَعْرِضَ قَبِيلَةً وَاحِدَةً لِلنَّاسِ.
Nasr said, ‘And it is narrated to me by Amro Bin Numeyr, from Abu Al Waddak who said, ‘When the agreement of the truce and the arbitration was written, Ali-asws said: ‘But rather, I-asws did what I-asws did due to what had appeared among you all, from the weakness and the cowardliness from the war’. Hamdan came to him as if they were a fortress pillar, among them were Saeed Bin Qas and his son Abdul Rahman. Saeed said, ‘Here I am and so are my people, we will not reject your-asws order, so say whatever you-asws so desire to, we shall do it! ’
He-asws said: ‘If only this had happened before writing of the agreement, I-asws would have removed them from their camp, or my-asws past would have been unique, but leave having been rightly guided. By my-asws life! I-asws will not expose one tribe to the people (enemy)’’. [67]
