وَ رَوَى الشَّيْخُ قُدِّسَ سِرُّهُ فِي تَلْخِيصِ الشَّافِي، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي مِخْنَفٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمْرَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص لَمَّا قُبِضَ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ فِي سَقِيفَةِ بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ فَقَالُوا نُوَلِّي هَذَا الْأَمْرَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مُحَمَّدٍ ص سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ وَ أَخْرَجُوا سَعْداً إِلَيْهِمْ وَ هُوَ مَرِيضٌ
قَالَ فَلَمَّا اجْتَمَعُوا قَالَ لِابْنِهِ أَوْ لِبَعْضِ بَنِي عَمِّهِ إِنِّي لَا أَقْدِرُ لِشَكْوَايَ أَنْ أُسْمِعَ الْقَوْمَ كُلَّهُمْ كَلَامِي وَ لَكِنْ تَلَقَّ مِنِّي قَوْلِي فَأَسْمِعْهُمْ فَكَانَ يَتَكَلَّمُ وَ يَحْفَظُ الرَّجُلُ قَوْلَهُ فَيَرْفَعُ بِهِ صَوْتَهُ وَ يُسْمِعُ بِهِ أَصْحَابَهُ
فَقَالَ بَعْدَ أَنْ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَ أَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ إِنَّ لَكُمْ سَابِقَةً فِي الدِّينِ وَ فَضِيلَةً فِي الْإِسْلَامِ لَيْسَتْ لِقَبِيلَةٍ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ إِنَّ مُحَمَّداً ص لَبِثَ بِضْعَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً فِي قَوْمِهِ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى عِبَادَةِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَ خَلْعِ الْأَوْثَانِ فَمَا آمَنَ بِهِ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا رِجَالٌ قَلِيلٌ
وَ اللَّهِ مَا كَانُوا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلَى أَنْ يَمْنَعُوا رَسُولَهُ وَ لَا أَنْ يُعِزُّوا دِينَهُ وَ لَا أَنْ يَدْفَعُوا عَنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ ضَيْماً عُمُّوا بِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا أَرَادَ بِكُمْ رَبُّكُمُ الْفَضِيلَةَ وَ سَاقَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْكَرَامَةَ وَ خَصَّكُمْ بِالنِّعْمَةِ وَ رَزَقَكُمُ الْإِيمَانَ بِهِ وَ بِرَسُولِهِ وَ الْمَنْعَ لَهُ وَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ وَ الْإِعْزَازَ لَهُ وَ لِدِينِهِ وَ الْجِهَادَ لِأَعْدَائِهِ
وَ كُنْتُمْ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَلَى عَدُوِّهِ مِنْهُمْ وَ أَثْقَلَهُ عَلَى عَدُوِّهِ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ حَتَّى اسْتَقَامَتِ الْعَرَبُ لِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ طَوْعاً وَ كَرْهاً وَ أَعْطَى الْبَعِيدُ الْمَقَادَةَ صَاغِراً دَاخِراً وَ حَتَّى أَثْخَنَ اللَّهُ لِرَسُولِهِ بِكُمُ الْأَرْضَ وَ دَانَتْ بِأَسْيَافِكُمْ لَهُ الْعَرَبُ وَ تَوَفَّاهُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ وَ هُوَ عَنْكُمْ رَاضٍ وَ بِكُمْ قَرِيرُ عَيْنٍ اسْتَبِدُّوا بِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ دُونَ النَّاسِ فَإِنَّهُ لَكُمْ دُونَ النَّاسِ
فَأَجَابُوهُ بِأَجْمَعِهِمْ بِأَنْ قَدْ وُفِّقْتَ فِي الرَّأْيِ وَ أَصَبْتَ فِي الْقَوْلِ وَ لَنْ نَعْدُوَ مَا رَأَيْتَ نُوَلِّيكَ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ فَإِنَّكَ فِينَا مُتَّبَعٌ وَ لِصَالِحِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِضًا
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ تَرَادُّوا الْكَلَامَ فَقَالُوا فَإِنْ أَبَتْ مُهَاجِرَةُ قُرَيْشٍ فَقَالُوا نَحْنُ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ وَ صَح
And it is reported by the sheykh in (the book) ‘Talkhees Al Shafy’, from Hisham Bin Muhammad, from Abu Mikhnaf, from Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Umra Al Ansari, ‘When the Prophet-saww passed away, the Helpers gathered in the shed (Saqeefa) of the clan of Saaida and they said, ‘We will be Sa’ad Bin Ubada to be a ruler after Muhammad-saww’, and they brought out Sa’ad to them and he was ill’. He (the narrator) said, ‘When they had gathered, he said to his son, or to one of the clan of Umayya, ‘I am not able upon getting my complaint to be heard by all of the people, but you receive my words from me and get it to be heard by them’. So he was speaking and the man was memorising his words. He raised his voice and got his companions to hear it. He said after he had praised Allah-azwj and Extolled upon Him-azwj, ‘O community of the Helpers! For you is the precedence in the Religion and a merit in, not being for any tribe from the Arabs. Muhammad-saww stayed among his-saww people for ten years calling them to worship the Beneficent, and leave the idols. But no one from his-saww people believed except a few men. By Allah-azwj! They were neither able upon preventing His-azwj Rasool-saww nor strengthen His-azwj Religion, nor defend from themselves any wrong being blinded with it, until when your Lord-azwj Wanted the merit with you, and Usher the honour to you, and specialise you with the Favour, and Grace you with the Eman in Him-azwj and His-azwj Rasool-saww, and the prevention for him-saww and for his-saww companions, and the strengthening for him-saww and his-saww Religion, and fighting against his-saww enemies. And you were the strongest of the people against his-saww enemies than they were, and heavier upon his-saww enemies than others, until they were straightened for the Commands of Allah-azwj, willingly and unwillingly, and the distant ones came belittled, humbled, and until Allah-azwj Strengthened the earth for His-azwj Rasool-saww through you, and the Arabs had a Religion by your swords, and Allah-azwj Caused him-saww to pass away to Him-azwj, and he-saww was pleased from you, and his-saww eyes would be delighted by you having begun with this command besides the (other) people, for it is for you besides the people’. They answered him in their entirety with, ‘We are concordant in the view, and correct with the words, and we will never leave what you are viewing.
