هَذَا قَالَ أَ تَجْحَدُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص آخَى بَيْنِي وَ بَيْنَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَأَعَادَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ
ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَلِيٌّ ع فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَنْشُدُكُمُ اللَّهَ أَ سَمِعْتُمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ كَذَا وَ كَذَا وَ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ كَذَا وَ كَذَا
فَلَمْ يَدَعْ عَلِيٌّ ع شَيْئاً قَالَهُ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص عَلَانِيَةً لِلْعَامَّةِ إِلَّا ذَكَّرَهُمْ إِيَّاهُ فَقَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ
فَلَمَّا تَخَوَّفَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَنْ يَنْصُرَهُ النَّاسُ وَ أَنْ يَمْنَعُوهُ بَادَرَهُمْ فَقَالَ كُلُّ مَا قُلْتَ حَقٌّ قَدْ سَمِعْنَاهُ بِآذَانِنَا وَ وَعَتْهُ قُلُوبُنَا وَ لَكِنْ قَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص يَقُولُ بَعْدَ هَذَا إِنَّا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ اصْطَفَانَا اللَّهُ وَ أَكْرَمَنَا وَ اخْتَارَ لَنَا الْآخِرَةَ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا وَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَجْمَعَ لَنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ النُّبُوَّةَ وَ الْخِلَافَةَ
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع هَلْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص شَهِدَ هَذَا مَعَكَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ صَدَقَ خَلِيفَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَدْ سَمِعْنَا هَذَا مِنْهُ كَمَا قَالَ وَ قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ وَ سَالِمٌ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ قَدْ سَمِعْنَا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع لَقَدْ وَفَيْتُمْ بِصَحِيفَتِكُمْ الْمَلْعُونَةِ الَّتِي قَدْ تَعَاقَدْتُمْ عَلَيْهَا فِي الْكَعْبَةِ إِنْ قَتَلَ اللَّهُ مُحَمَّداً أَوْ مَاتَ لَتَزْوُنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ عَنَّا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَمَا عِلْمُكَ بِذَلِكَ مَا أَطْلَعْنَاكَ عَلَيْهَا
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع أَنْتَ يَا زُبَيْرُ وَ أَنْتَ يَا سَلْمَانُ وَ أَنْتَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ وَ أَنْتَ يَا مِقْدَادُ أَسْأَلُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ وَ بِالْإِسْلَامِ أَ مَا سَمِعْتُمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ وَ أَنْتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ إِنَّ فُلَاناً وَ فُلَاناً حَتَّى عَدَّ هَؤُلَاءِ الْخَمْسَةَ قَدْ كَتَبُوا بَيْنَهُمْ كِتَاباً وَ تَعَاهَدُوا فِيهِ وَ تَعَاقَدُوا عَلَى مَا صَنَعُوا
فَقَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَدْ سَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ لَكَ إِنَّهُمْ قَدْ تَعَاهَدُوا وَ تَعَاقَدُوا عَلَى مَا صَنَعُوا وَ كَتَبُوا بَيْنَهُمْ كِتَاباً إِنْ قُتِلْتُ أَوْ مِتُّ أَنْ يَزْوُوا عَنْكَ هَذَا يَا عَلِيُّ
فَقُلْتُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ أَنْ أَفْعَلَ فَقَالَ لَكَ إِنْ وَجَدْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَعْوَاناً فَجَاهِدْهُمْ وَ نَابِذْهُمْ وَ إِنْ لَمْ تَجِدْ أَعْوَاناً فَبَايِعْهُمْ وَ احْقُنْ دَمَكَ
فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع أَ
ty of Muslims, and the Emigrants and the Helpers! I-asws adjure you all with Allah-azwj! Didn’t you hear Rasool-Allah-saww saying on the day of Ghadeer Khumm, such and such, and during the military expedition of Tabuk, such and such? ’
Ali-asws did not leave anything Rasool-Allah-saww had said regarding him-asws, announcing to the general public, except he-asws reminded them of it. They kept saying, ‘O Allah-azwj, yes! ’
When Abu Bakr feared that the people might help him-asws, and even if he forbids them, he rushed them said, ‘All what you-asws say is true. We have heard it with our ears, and our hearts retained it, but we have heard Rasool-Allah-saww saying after this: ‘We-asws, People-asws of the Household, Allah-azwj Chose us-asws, and Honoured us-asws, and Chose the Hereafter to be for us-asws over the world, and that Allah-azwj will not happen to Gather for us-asws, People-asws of the Household, the Prophet-hood and the Caliphate’. Ali-asws said: ‘Is there anyone from the companions of Rasool-Allah-saww who witnessed this with you? ’ Umar said, ‘The caliph of Rasool-Allah-saww speaks the truth. We have heard this from him-saww just as he says’. And Abu Ubeyda, and Saalim Mawla Abu Huzeyfa, and Muaz Bin Jabal said, ‘We have heard that from Rasool-Allah-saww’. Ali-asws said: ‘You have been loyal to your agreement, the accursed, which you had agreed upon in the Kabah that, If Allah-azwj Kills Muhammad-saww, or he-saww dies, you will be removing this command from us-asws, People-asws of the Household’’. Abu Bakr said, ‘So what made you-asws know that? We did not notify you-asws upon it! ’
Ali-asws said: ‘You, O Abu Zarr-ra, and you O Salman-ra, and you O Abu Zarr-ra, and you O Miqdad-ra! I-asws ask you-ra by Allah-azwj, and by, did you-ra not hear Rasool-Allah-saww saying that, and you-ra were listening: ‘So and so, and so and so’ – until he-asws counted those five who had written a letter between them and vowed regarding it, and they had agreed upon what they would do. They-ra said, ‘O Allah-azwj, yes we-ra have heard Rasool-Allah-saww saying that to you-asws, they have contracted and agreed upon what they would do, and written a letter between them if he-saww is killed or dies, they would impeded this from you-asws, O Ali-asws’. I-asws said: ‘May my-asws father-as be (sacrificed) for you-saww, O Rasool-Allah-saww! What do you-saww instruct me-asws to do when that happens? ’ He-saww said: ‘For you-asws is if you-asws were to find supporters against them, then fight them, and get rid of them, and if you-asws do not find supporters, then pledge allegiance to them and save your-asws blood’. Ali-asws said: ‘By Allah-azwj! If those forty men, those who had pledged allegiance to me-asws had been loyal, I-asws would have fought against you regarding Allah-azwj. But, by Allah-azwj, no one from both your (Abu Bakr and Umar) posterity will attain it (caliphate) up to the Day of Qiyamah.
