(The book) ‘Irshad Al Quloob’, by the chain to Abu Hamza Al Sumali, from Abu Is’haq Al Sabie who said, ‘I entered the great Masjid at Al-Kufa and there I was with and old man of white hair and beard. I did not recognise him. He was leaning to its pillar and he was weeping, and his tears were flowing upon his cheeks. I said, ‘O sheykh! What makes you cry? ’
He said to me, ‘More than one hundred years have come upon me, I have not seen any justice during these, nor any right, nor apparent knowledge except for two hours from a night, and two hours from a day, and I am weeping to that’. I said, ‘And what is that time, and the night and the day in which you saw the justice? ’
He said, ‘I am a man from the Jews and there was an estate for me in the area of Sowra’a, and there was a neighbour for us in the estate from the people of Al-Kufa called Al-Haris Al-Awr Al-Hamdani, and he was a man of afflicted eyes, and there was a friend for me, a mingler. And one day from the days I entered Al-Kufa and there was some food with me upon a donkey of mine, I wanted to sell it at Al-Kufa. While I was ushering the donkey, and had come into salty land of Al-Kufa, and that was after the last Isha, I lost my donkey, and it was as if the ground had swallowed it or the sky had grabbed it, and as if the Jinn had kidnapped it, and I searched right and left but could not find it. I came to the house of Al-Haris Al-Hamdani at that time to complain to him of what had afflicted me, and I informed him with the news. He said, ‘Come with us to Amir Al-Momineen-asws until we inform him’. We went to him-asws and informed him-asws the news. Amir Al-Momineen-asws said to Al-Haris: ‘Go to your house and leave me-asws and the Jew alone, for I-asws am responsible for his donkey and his foodstuff, until I return it to him’. Al-Haris went to his house, and Amir Al-Momineen-asws held my hand until we came to the place at which I had lost my donkey and my foodstuff. He-asws turned his-asws face away from me and moved his-asws lips and his-asws tongue with a speech I could not understand it. Then he-asws raised his-asws head and I heard him-asws saying: ‘By Allah-azwj! It was not upon this that you had pledged allegiance to me-asws, O community of Jinn! And I-asws swear by Allah-azwj, if you do not return to the Jew his donkey and his foodstuff, I-asws shall break your pact and fight against you all for the Sake of Allah-azwj as is the right of Jihad! ’
He (the narrator) said, ‘By Allah-azwj! Amir Al-Momineen-asws had not finished from his-asws speech until I saw my donkey and my foodstuff in front of me. Then Amir Al-Momineen-asws said: ‘Choose, O Jews, one of the two characteristics. Either you usher your
