َةً يَسْتَنْجِدُهُ وَ يَسْتَصْرِخُهُ وَ يَحْمِلُ حَبِيبٌ حَمْلَةً شَدِيدَةً بِمَيْسَرَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى مَيْمَنَةِ الْعِرَاقِ فَكَشَفَهَا حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ مَعَ ابْنِ بُدَيْلٍ إِلَّا نَحْوُ مِائَةِ إِنْسَانٍ مِنَ الْقُرَّاءِ
فَاسْتَنَدَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ يَحْمُونَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَ لَحِجَ ابْنُ بُدَيْلٍ فِي النَّاسِ وَ صَمَّمَ عَلَى قَتْلِ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَ جَعَلَ يَطْلُبُ مَوْقِفَهُ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَيْهِ فَنَادَى مُعَاوِيَةُ فِي النَّاسِ وَيْلَكُمْ الصَّخْرَةَ وَ الْحِجَارَةَ إِذَا عَجَزْتُمْ عَنِ السِّلَاحِ أَثْخِنُوهُ فَرَضَخَهُ النَّاسُ بِالْحِجَارَةِ حَتَّى أَثْخَنُوهُ فَسَقَطَ فَأَقْبَلُوا عَلَيْهِ بِسُيُوفِهِمْ فَقَتَلُوهُ
وَ جَاءَ مُعَاوِيَةُ وَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ حَتَّى وَقَفَا عَلَيْهِ فَأَلْقَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عِمَامَتَهُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ وَ تَرَحَّمَ عَلَيْهِ وَ كَانَ لَهُ أَخاً وَ صَدِيقاً مِنْ قَبْلُ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ اكْشِفْ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ لَا وَ اللَّهِ لَا يُمَثَّلُ بِهِ وَ فِيَّ رُوحٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَدْ وَهَبْنَاهُ لَكَ فَكَشَفَ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ هَذَا كَبِيرُ الْقَوْمِ وَ رَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ اللَّهُمَّ ظَفِّرْنِي بِالْأَشْتَرِ النَّخَعِيِّ وَ الْأَشْعَثِ الْكِنْدِيِّ
قَالَ فَاسْتَعْلَى أَهْلُ الشَّامِ عِنْدَ قَتْلِ ابْنِ بُدَيْلٍ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَ انْكَشَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِرَاقِ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَيْمَنَةِ وَ أَجْفَلُوا إِجْفَالًا شَدِيداً
فَأَمَرَ عَلِيٌّ ع سَهْلَ بْنَ حُنَيْفٍ فَاسْتَقْدَمَ مِمَّنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ لِيُرِيدَ الْمَيْمَنَةَ بِعَقْدِهَا فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُمْ جُمُوعُ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ فِي خَيْلٍ عَظِيمَةٍ فَحَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَأَحْلَقَتْهُمْ بِالْمَيْمَنَةِ وَ كَانَتْ مَيْمَنَةُ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ مُتَّصِلَةً بِمَوْقِفِ عَلِيٍّ ع فِي الْقَلْبِ فِي أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ
فَلَمَّا انْكَشَفُوا انْتَهَتِ الْهَزِيمَةُ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ ع فَانْصَرَفَ يَمْشِي نَحْوَ الْمَيْسَرَةِ فَانْكَشَفَتْ عَنْهُ مُضَرُ مِنَ الْمَيْسَرَةِ فَلَمْ يَبْقَ مَعَ عَلِيٍّ ع مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ إِلَّا رَبِيعَةُ وَحْدَهَا فِي الْمَيْسَرَةِ.
begging him and crying out to him. And Habeeb attacked such a severe attack with the left flank of Muawiya upon the right flank of (people of) Al-Iraq, and exposed it until there did not remain anyone with Ibn Budeyl except around one hundred persons from the readers. Some of them relied upon the others to protect themselves, and Ibn Budeyl went among the people determined upon killing Muawiya, and he went on to seek his position until he ended up to him. Muawiya called out among the people, ‘Woe be unto you all! The rocks and the stones, when you are unable from the weapons, and pelt him! ’ The people pelted him with the stones until he caved in and dropped. They came upon him with their swords and killed him. And Muawiya and Abdullah Bin Aamir came until they paused at him. Abdullah threw cast turban upon his face and had mercy on him, and he was a brother of his and a friend from before. Muawiya said, ‘Uncover from his face! ’ He said, ‘No, by Allah-azwj! There will be no trampling with him while there is still a soul in me’. Muawiya said to him, ‘I have gifted him to you’. He uncovered from his face. Muawiya said, ‘This is a great one of the people, by Lord-azwj of the Kabah! O Allah-azwj! He has won over me with Al-Ashtar Al-Nakhaie, and Al-Ash’as Al-Kindy’. He (the narrator) said, ‘The people of Syria were on a high at the killing of Ibn Budeyl over the people of Al-Iraq on that day, and the people of Al-Iraq were exposed from the direction of the right flank, and they were scared with severe fright. Ali-asws ordered Sahl Bin Huneyf, and he advanced from the ones intending the right flank with re-enforcing it. A crowd from the people of Syria faced them among a large cavalry and attacked upon them and surrounded them at the right flank. And the right flank of the people of Al-Iraq was connected with the station of Ali-asws in the centre, among the people of Al-Yemen. When they were exposed, the defeat ended up to Ali-asws, so he-asws left walking towards the left flank and removed the harm from it, from the right flank. There did not remained with Ali-asws from the people of Al-Iraq except Rabie along in the right flank’’. [15]
