ما، الأمالي للشيخ الطوسي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْقَزْوِينِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ وَهْبَانَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَبِي غُنْدَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ ذَاكَ يَوْمُ قَتْلِ الْحُسَيْنِ ع فَإِنْ كُنْتَ شَامِتاً فَصُمْ
ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ آلَ أُمَيَّةَ لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ وَ مَنْ أَعَانَهُمْ عَلَى قَتْلِ الْحُسَيْنِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ نَذَرُوا نَذْراً إِنْ قُتِلَ الْحُسَيْنُ ع وَ سَلِمَ مَنْ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْحُسَيْنِ وَ صَارَتِ الْخِلَافَةُ فِي آلِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ أَنْ يَتَّخِذُوا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ عِيداً لَهُمْ يَصُومُونَ فِيهِ شُكْراً
فَصَارَتْ فِي آلِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ سُنَّةً إِلَى الْيَوْمِ فِي النَّاسِ وَ اقْتَدَى بِهِمُ النَّاسُ جَمِيعاً لِذَلِكَ فَلِذَلِكَ يَصُومُونَهُ وَ يُدْخِلُونَ عَلَى عِيَالاتِهِمْ وَ أَهَالِيهِمُ الْفَرَحَ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ الْخَبَرَ.
(The book) ‘Al Amaali’ of the Sheikh Al Tusi – Al-Husayn Bin Ibrahim Al Qazwiny, from Muhammad Bin Wahban, from Ali Bin Hubeysh, from Al Abbas Bin Muhammad Bin Al-Husayn, from his father, from Safwan, from Al-Husayn Bin Abu Undar, from his father, ‘I asked him-asws about fasting the Day of Ashura. He-asws said: ‘That is a day Al-Husayn-asws was killed. So, if you were gloating, then fast! ’
Then he-asws said: ‘The progeny of Umayya, may Allah-azwj Curse them and the ones from the people of Syria who supported them upon killing Al-Husayn-asws. They had vowed a vow that if Al-Husayn-asws is killed, and the ones who had gone out to (kill) Al-Husayn-asws were safe, and the caliphate comes to be in the progeny of Abu Sufyan, they would be taking that day as a festival for them. They would be fasting for thanks (to Allah-azwj) during it. Thus, is became a way among the progeny of Abu Sufyan until today, among the people, and the people in their entirety believed with them for that. Therefore, due to that, they are fasting it, and entering the happiness upon their dependants and their families during that day’ – the Hadeeth’’. [56]
