ْنِ قَيْسٍ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ
فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ عَلِيٌّ ع أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَلَوْ لَا هَنَاتٌ كُنَّ فِيكَ كُنْتَ الْمُقَدَّمَ فِي هَذَا الْأَمْرِ قَبْلَ النَّاسِ وَ لَعَلَّ أَمْرَكَ يَحْمِلُ بَعْضُهُ بَعْضاً إِنِ اتَّقَيْتَ اللَّهَ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ بَيْعَةِ النَّاسِ إِيَّايَ مَا قَدْ بَلَغَكَ وَ كَانَ طَلْحَةُ وَ الزُّبَيْرُ مِمَّنْ بَايَعَانِي ثُمَّ نَقَضَا بَيْعَتِي عَلَى غَيْرِ حَدَثٍ وَ أَخْرَجَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ صَارَا إِلَى الْبَصْرَةِ
فَسِرْتُ إِلَيْهِمَا فَالْتَقَيْنَا فَدَعَوْتُهُمْ إِلَى أَنْ يَرْجِعُوا فِيمَا خَرَجُوا مِنْهُ فَأَبَوْا فَأَبْلَغْتُ فِي الدُّعَاءِ وَ أَحْسَنْتُ فِي الْبَقِيَّةِ وَ إِنَّ عَمَلَكَ لَيْسَ لَكَ بِطُعْمَةٍ وَ لَكِنَّهُ أَمَانَةٌ وَ فِي يَدَيْكَ مَالٌ مِنْ مَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَنْتَ مِنْ خُزَّانِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تُسَلِّمَهُ إِلَيَّ وَ لَعَلِّي أَنْ لَا أَكُونَ شَرَّ وُلَاتِكَ لَكَ إِنِ اسْتَقَمْتَ وَ لا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
فَلَمَّا قَرَأَ الْكِتَابَ قَامَ زِيَادُ بْنُ مَرْحَبٍ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَ أَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّهُ مَنْ لَمْ يَكْفِهِ الْقَلِيلُ لَمْ يَكْفِهِ الْكَثِيرُ إِنَّ أَمْرَ عُثْمَانَ لَا يَنْفَعُ فِيهِ الْعِيَانُ وَ لَا يَشْفِي مِنْهُ الْخَبَرُ غَيْرَ أَنَّ مَنْ سَمِعَ بِهِ لَيْسَ كَمَنْ عَايَنَهُ
إِنَّ النَّاسَ بَايَعُوا عَلِيّاً رَاضِينَ بِهِ وَ إِنَّ طَلْحَةَ وَ الزُّبَيْرَ نَقَضَا بَيْعَتَهُ عَلَى غَيْرِ حَدَثٍ ثُمَّ أَذِنَا بِحَرْبٍ فَأَخْرَجَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَسَارَ إِلَيْهِمَا فَلَمْ يُقَاتِلْهُمْ وَ فِي نَفْسِهِ مِنْهُمْ حَاجَةٌ فَأَوْرَثَهُ اللَّهُ الْأَرْضَ وَ جَعَلَ لَهُ عَاقِبَةَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
ثُمَّ قَامَ الْأَشْعَثُ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَ أَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُثْمَانَ وَلَّانِي آذَرْبِيجَانَ فَهَلَكَ وَ هِيَ فِي يَدِي وَ قَدْ بَايَعَ النَّاسُ عَلِيّاً وَ طَاعَتُنَا لَهُ [كَطَاعَةِ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَهُ] وَ قَدْ كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ وَ أَمْرِ طَلْحَةَ وَ الزُّبَيْرِ مَا قَدْ بَلَغَكُمْ وَ عَلِيٌّ الْمَأْمُونُ عَلَى مَا قَدْ غَابَ عَنَّا وَ عَنْكُمْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْأَمْرِ
قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَتَى مَنْزِلَهُ دَعَا أَصْحَابَهُ وَ قَالَ
s Bin Qays along with Ziyad Bin Marhab Al-Hamdani, and Al-Ashas upon Azarbayjan, an office bearer of Usman, and Amro Bin Usman was married to the daughter of Al-Ash’as Bin Qays before that. Ali-asws wrote to him: ‘As for after, had it not been for the lies happening among you, I-asws would have moved ahead this matter before the people, and perhaps I-asws would have instructed you to carry each other to fear Allah-azwj. Then it happened from allegiances of the people to me-asws what has reached you, and Talha and Al-Zubeyr are from the ones who had pledged allegiance to me. Then they broke my-asws allegiance upon without there having been any innovation, and brought out a mother of the believers and came to Al-Basra. So, I-asws travelled to them and called them to returning into what they had exited from, but they refused. I-asws reached out in the call, and was good in the remainder. Your work is not for you to feed, but it is an entrustment, and there is wealth in your hand from the wealth of Allah-azwj, and you are from the treasurers of Allah-azwj upon it until you submit it to me-asws, and it is upon me-asws that I-asws do not become an evil ruler to you, if you are straight, and there is no strength except with Allah-azwj’. When he-asws read the letter, Zayd Bin Marhab stood up. He praised Allah-azwj and extolled upon Him-azwj, then said, ‘O you people! One whom the little does not suffice, the more will not suffice. The matter of Usman, the assisting does not benefit in it, nor does the news have any healing in it, apart from that the one who hears it isn’t like the one who sees it. The people pledged allegiance to Ali-asws being pleased with him-asws, and Talha and Al-Zubeyr broke his-asws allegiance upon without there having been any innovations. Then they proclaimed the war and brought out a mother of the believers. So, he-asws travelled to them and did not fight them, and within himself was a need from them. Allah-azwj Caused him-asws to inherit the land and Made it to be an end-result for the Momineen for him-asws’. Then Al-Ash’as stood up. He praised Allah-azwj and extolled upon Him-azwj, then said, ‘O you people! The commander of the faithful had placed me in charge of Azerbaijan. He died, and it is in my hands, and the people have pledged allegiance to Ali-asws, and our obedience is for him-asws (like the obedience of the ones who were before him-asws), and it has happened from hi
